2026 Truth Calendar
TRUTH WAS THE ONLY DAUGHTER OF TIME - Leonardo DaVinci
Inspired by the phrase "truth was the only daughter of time" from Leonardo da Vinci, this quote means that truth is gradually and gently revealed and proven over time, not by authority or the loudest opinions. It suggests that as time passes, falsehoods and contradictions are exposed, and the genuine facts and understanding emerge. As a scientist, as well as an artist, da Vinci believed in the importance of experience and observation, stating that "experience never errs; it is only your rash judgments that err by promising themselves effects such as are not caused by your experiments". Time reveals what authority hides, implying that things built on deception or arrogance will not last, as time will eventually expose the underlying reality. In this view, time, or history is a more reliable guide than any one authority or human-made narrative. Truth as process of a life of discovery: The quote frames truth not as an instantaneous discovery, but as a slow, unfolding process.
Like a young daughter growing into a woman, then growing into an elderly wise lady, truth grows more apparent and undeniable as more time goes by.

In our current divisive, derisive global climate, we can’t print the future 12 months or even one month before it happens.
Now we have biased media empires, journalists with integrity, facts versus opinions.

You could say truth as a duality, or perhaps 10 years past post-truth as word of the year?
Truth/Shin. I’ve practiced this shodou character hundreds of times and this one was chosen, although it’s not my ‘best’, because my truth for 2026 doesn’t feel thick or square, it’s flexible and it wants to dance!
There are many ways artists create their sense of the world, be it sculpture, science, music, poetry, dance, martial arts or any other means of expressing complex thoughts and feelings. The practice of Shodou has always been a place for me to meditate, where words and focus and touch and freedom can happen at once. We practice our artforms to find our flow when our hearts and minds are in sync."
